FEM simulation of viscoetastic properties of elastomer components - Rubber materials offer specific mechanical properties which are indispensable to many different technical applications. First, the important properties are presented in this paper. Some aspects of these mechanical properties must be described by so called material models in order to carry out a computer aided design process of rubber parts by finite element analyses (FEA). This paper will discuss briefly different material models recently developed. These material models are adapted to the mechanical behaviour of the different rubbers by material dependent parameters, which are determined by different test methods and measured material data. Typical FEA results of a rubber metal motor bearing are also presented in this paper

Heat ageing stability of cured rubbers - Some tests used in the rubber industry are checked regarding their suitability to characterize the heat ageing resistance of rubber. Most useful is the procedure to determine the durability and average application temperature by using the temperature-time-dependence of a certain property, as well as by the modified Arrhenius - Equation or by suitable diagrams. For this the right choice of failure criteria is particularly important.
