Ratio analysis diagram (RAD) interpretive procedures, evolved recently, provide generalized engineering solutions for fracture toughness assessments of structural titanium alloys; failure-safe design also requires consideration of possible subcritical crack propagation (slow fracture) caused by stress-corrosion cracking (SCC); procedures developed to incorporate SCC characterizations into RAD system serve to provide simplified interpretations of critical flaw size-stress instability conditions by consideration of resistance of material to both fast fracture and SCC.
