The skin irritation and organ toxicity potential of Imidazole-4-carboxamide was evaluated in New Zealand white rabbits. No skin irritation was noted at concentrations of 1, 3, and 9% of the test compound as defined by the Draize method. This finding was confirmed histopathologically. No lesions, either macro- or microscopic, were noted in the kidney, liver, spleen, femur, bone marrow, large or small intestines, and ovaries or testes other than those produced by common rabbit diseases. Therefore, these data indicate that percutaneous exposure of rabbits to Imidazole-4-carboxamide produces no observable acute organ toxicity.
