Introduction of fluorinated substituents into epoxy resin has been attempted with the aim of developing optical adhesives having improved optical, thermal and mechanical properties. Fluorinated epoxy resin adhesives showed excellent refractive index matching to optical glass. Further characteristics included high adhesion strength and strong thermal resistance due to the effects of fluorinated substituents. Durable optical adhesives were obtained by optimizing formulations made of fluorinated epoxy resin, diluents and curing agents. These adhesives were applied to LD modules, APD modules and optical couplers for the FS-400M system.
