In the application for transport mean, the total weight of on-board equipment is very important. Capacity of SLIM's and inverter determines its volume and weight for the main. Then influences of harmonics on average characteristics of SLIM would be also clarified as exactly as possible. The theoretical analysis of characteristics of LIM fed with a voltage-source inverter was carried out only for double-sided motors. We study on SLIM in relation with the its displacement from normal position. To analyze cases of non-uniform air gap length, the one dimensional model is utilized. The object of our investigation is mainly concentrated in application for passenger transport. Then characteristics are evaluated under a normal control scheme of its propulsion system. Analytical results are compared with experimental data obtained from a stand-still test rig and test operation of the maglev transport vehicle HSST-03, which was successfully demonstrated in EXPO '85 in Tsukuba for a half year.
