The BASIC program listed and discussed in this article can be used to ease the design of forward- and half-bridge-type converters typically used in switching power supplies. It includes equations for calculating the primary circuit parameters for such networks, as well as a table of core data, comprising simple print statements, which eliminates the need for a separate computer data file. The program employs a graphic presentation - a feature which is particularly useful in optimising the design in terms of several parameters. Although it is written for an HP 2647A computer-graphics terminal which features a graphics language (AGL) as a subset of the BASIC supplied, the program can be modified slightly to generate graphs (basically XY plots) on almost any computer which has a TAB-type command.
