As it is necessary to obtain the observation data of atmospheric temperature and pressure, wind direction and velocity, amount of rainfall, etc. in order to see and analyze the atmospheric movements, the communication system has been long used for gathering these meteorological data. It was in 1884 that the communication system was first used in the Japan Meteorological Agency to gather observation data at every spot by way of telegram within a specified time in order to announce the weather forecast.
