This paper reports both static and dynamic properties of an air conditioner from the view point of the holding amount of refrigerant. At first, the holding amounts in an evaporator and a condenser under the static conditions are measured, and the empirical equations are derived using a mean slip ratio in two phase region. Secondly, the partial holding amounts in an ordinal air conditioner are measured at each time from a start, which leads us still depper comprehension. These results are available to design the charge amount of refrigerant and the capacity of a suction accumulator. Besides they are fundamentally useful to improve the efficiency and reliability of air conditioners by preventing slugging and other unstable conditions at a start. (Wassmann)
