Because they can be engineered to fulfil performance requirements and to have certain properties, man-made fibres take the lion's share of the protection sector, the high-tech field par excellence. Spectra (Honeywell Performance fibres) is a high-tenacity polyethylene fibre, ten times stronger than steel. Basofil (BASF) is used for fireproof garments, as the fibre does not melt in flames and does not drip. Kermel (Rhodia) is intrinsically flame retardant and ensures good textile and comfort properties. Lantor (Universal Carbon Fibres) has excellent flame retardant properties. The fibre is used in welder's overalls, in clothing that has to be resistant to strong acids and alkalis, in bullet-proof vests etc. Tyvek-Pro.Tech (DuPont) protective clothing offers a series of interesting and specific advantages: light and resistant to tears, abrasion and the heaviest-duty use etc. Tyvek is a HDPE sheet and produced by the 'flash-spinning' process. Made from pure HDPE and completely halogen-free, these garments are easily disposed. Klopman is Europe's leading producer not only of fabrics for standard work clothing, but also of fabric for the technical-protective varieties and for sportswear. Klopman operates a fibre-to-fabric vertical process. The company also offers a wide range of bright, intense and solid colours, a fact that is appreciated by its customers in all sectors of industry. Chemex are polyester/cotton fabrics with special finishes. Vektron is a line of so-called barrier fabrics, safety materials for use in situations where there is the risk of contamination. Luminex is used for high-visible fabrics. Coverstat are cotton/synthetic blended textile, combined with NegaStat (by DuPont). Megatec is a line of multifunctional protective fabrics. They are durable and extremely resistant to wear. Soft and drapeable, they are also extremely comfortable to wear. (Bilingual document: Italian/English)
