A number of industrial ventilation systems impose immense critical fire hazards largely induced by the considerable amount of highly flammable synthetic or glass fiber filter material within the ventilation unit. Especially in industrial processes that include welding or metal grinding works in automotive industry, foundries or steel mills, the threat of fires are omnipresent. To assess the fire hazards imposed to buildings, the specific fire load of a facility is being calculated by determining the amount of energy discharged by the gross sum of materials constituent to that specific building. The new GEA Tex line of GEA Delbag filters comprises filters that extensively reduce fire loads of buildings herby protecting processes as much as human lives. FireTex filters are fire-resistant, do not develop smoke, and do not drip in case of fire. By the use of FireTex operators are given the opportunity to fulfill the letter of the norm to use materials in ventilation systems containing fire retardant components only. The outstanding fire-prevention properties of these synthetic filters - thanks to an enhancement processing technique for which a patent has been protected - have now been officially confirmed: The German Automotive Inspection Agencies Dekra as well as the renowned independent German testing lab for mining industry DMT have classified FireTex filters in Class B, in accordance with DIN EN 13 501-1 2007, the European standard for construction materials and the German national version of the norm afore mentioned DIN 4102. In addition, FireTex filters have also been classified as s1 for smoke development and d0 for dripping in case of fire. The pressure drop and dust holding capacities of the media are almost not affected. A supplementary external test was done on the toxicity of the traces of smoke emitted in accordance the DIN EN ISO 5659-2 by DMT. The safety of all FireTex branded products has already been confirmed by both testing labs and patents as well as trademarks have been registered.
