The design complexity and quality standards of today's vehicles places tougher demands than ever before on the vehicle's electrical systems, such that they must be rugged and reliable enough to prevent electrical faults in the harshest underhood environments. With typical warranty periods now in excess of 3 years and with 10 years/100000 miles being seriously proposed, such wiring systems are expected to reliably perform when exposed to high (and low) temperatures, water, salt, fuels and many other contaminants. In addition, such systems are expected to withstand the effects of electrical pollution in the form of electromagnetic interference. Together, these new materials and products combine to provide tougher, smaller, higher temperature resistance and environmentally sealed electrical interconnection systems and will thus aid the design and manufacturing engineers in their committed pursuit of the 'zero maintenance' vehicle.
