Many manufacturing operations attempt to manage yields and processes by examining data only from the perspective of the entire factory. The necessity to monitor performance results of the factory is critical. However, management of processes and yields is extremely difficult if only overall factory performance is considered. By partitioning the entire factory into smaller sub-factories, of fractional factories, a structured and methodical approach to managing yields and processes is possible. Specific applications of the fractional factory include yield detractor minimization, quality control for subsequent process sectors, and consideration for physical part presentation for follow-on operations. Yield detractor management is outlined in a seven-step systematic approach.
