The paper presents methodology concerning determination of the restitution coefficient for broad range of ball velocities, that are used in pneumatic ball peening process. Values of the coefficient are given, that have been measured in WT3-1, WT22 and WT1-0 titanium alloys, and 45 steel; it has been stated that they depend also on impact velocity - increase in the velocity from 10 to 100 m/s resulted in restitution coefficient decrease by 45 %. Effect of the ball impact velocity on shape and sizes of indentation zone, as well as surface roughness and surface layer hardening are also discussed. The results presented allow to make initial evolution of correctness of the ball peening process variables, basing on measurement of indentation diameter.
