The TIB invites you to lectures, guided tours and various activities on this day – come along!

Since 1995, the ”National Library Days” has taken place every year on 24 October throughout Germany. Every year, the day draws attention to the more than 9,000 libraries in Germany and arouses curiosity about their diverse offerings. TIB is also taking part in this day with various offers – come and visit us, we look forward to seeing you!

Behind the Scenes – library tour of the magazine

Did you know that the TIB is the world's largest specialist library for technology and the natural sciences, but that you can only see three per cent of the collection when you visit our building? This guided tour gives you the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and also see areas that are otherwise closed to you. Let us explain TIB's hidden holdings to you on a guided tour: whether it's microfilms, data carriers, old stock or journals that only exist at TIB in Germany - here you can experience the hidden sides of the library.

Interesting presentations on twillo, the TIB AV-Portal and Open Access

Introducing the OER portal twillo

Open Educational Resources (OER) are of particular relevance in the discourse on the change towards equal access to education and knowledge. This is because they are freely available, can be used free of charge and can be adapted to individual teaching and learning contexts or the specific needs of learners.

The OER portal twillo is the central infrastructure for searching, finding and publishing open educational resources. The platform is explicitly aimed at university teachers and students. OER from all subjects groups, disciplines and fields of study from higher education institutions are collected on twillo. The materials are diverse and range from individual self-contained teaching/learning objects, such as presentations, worksheets or sample exams, to entire courses, digital tools and tools.

The short lecture will first explain the most important basics of OER. Then you will get to know the functions and features of twillo.

Experience science audiovisually – the TIB AV-Portal “in a nutshell”

Knowledge and science become particularly vivid in a video format. The  TIB AV-Portal is THE open, cost-free platform for finding, using and publishing science videos. The short lecture will introduce the TIB AV-Portal and in particular its diverse, interdisciplinary content spectrum. There are innovative features and services that even Youtube does not offer and thus enrich the acquisition of knowledge, whether for studies and scientific work, for teaching and research or for very personal education.

The truth is paywalled but the lies are free

It's actually very easy to access all kinds of information on the internet, but scientific publications in particular are often hidden behind a paywall. In this short lecture you will learn how research results can be made freely accessible to all through Open Access and what role libraries play in this process.
