Welcome to the 18th issue of "Aktuelles zu Open Access" for Leibniz Universität Hannover. We cover the latest developments in Open Access activities at Leibniz Universität Hannover and TIB, as well as general trends in the area of Open Access.

Hungary, Norway, and the University of California will not renew their Elsevier subscriptions

The national consortia of Hungary and Norway as well as the University of California (which accounts for nearly 10 per cent of the publishing output in the US) have not renewed their Elsevier subscriptions following lengthy negotiations. In all cases, the reason was said to be the publisher's unwillingness to meet demands for Open Access. In Germany as well, Project DEAL and Elsevier have also failed to reach an agreement.


Publication of the contract between Project DEAL and Wiley

The full text of the "publish & read" agreement between Project DEAL and Wiley, signed in January 2019, has now been published, along with explanations and FAQs.


EU report on the future of scholarly publishing

An expert group has prepared a report on the "Future of scholarly publishing and scholarly communication" for the European Commission. The report gives an overview of the current system, and the role that researchers, research institutions, funders and policymakers play in it, and gives advice for future development.


New Open Access journal in Romance Studies

"apropos [Perspektiven auf die Romania]" is a new Open Access journal for Romance Studies. It is edited by scholars of the University of Rostock and hosted by Hamburg University Press of Hamburg State and University Library. Authors can publish articles in the journal free of charge.

Workshop: Academic Publishing and Open Access

In the workshop "Academic Publishing and Open Access" on 1 April 2019, organised by TIB in cooperation with the Graduate Academy, there are still places available. Graduate students and postdocs of Leibniz Universität Hannover can register by 25 March.


Open Access Days 2019 in Hannover

The Open-Access-Tage (Open Access Days), the most prominent annual meeting on Open Access and Open Science in the German-speaking world, will be held in Hannover from 30 September to 2 October 2019, and will be hosted by TIB, LUH and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Bibliothek (GWLB). Proposals for presentations and workshops may be submitted by 15 April 2019; proposals for posters and the tool marketplace by 1 July 2019.


Open Access publishing in IOP and ECS journals

TIB has concluded agreements with the Institute of Physics Publishing (IOP) and the Electrochemical Society (ECS) that include Open Access publishing. Researchers of Leibniz Universität Hannover can publish Open Access in these publishers' journals at no extra cost. If there are any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
