The bacteriocin pectocin M2 contains a plant ferredoxin‐like domain that enables entry into Pectobacterium through a system used to obtain iron during infection of plants. The extended conformation of pectocin M2 (blue cartoon and surface) is proposed to thread through the lumen of its target TonB‐dependent receptor (here modeled by HasR from Serratia marcescens) without unfolding. For further details readers are referred to the article by Grinter et al. on pp. 234–246 of this issue| 2014
