Preservation Analyst (m/f/d)

The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB), Program Area A, being Content Development and Metadata, is looking to employ a

Preservation Analyst (m/f/d)

to strengthen its Digital Preservation team starting as soon as possible.

The position is a parental leave placement on a fixed-term contract for the duration of the maternity leave and subsequent one-year parental leave of the job holder. The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time). The position is suitable for part-time work. Salary is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L.

Job Purpose
You will be the contact person for the preparation of AV materials for deposit into the digital preservation system, as well as developing and maintaining scripts and processes for the implementation and error analysis of various steps in the pre-ingest and ingest process of digital content.

Your Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the quality assurance process for digitized AV objects to be ingested into the digital preservation system
  • Analysis and identification of formats and recommendations for AV-media
  • Development and support of scripts, workflow specifications and configurations for pre-ingest and ingest processes
  • Identification and validation of files as part of ingest processes as well as technical analysis of files with errors
  • Improvement and support of existing digital preservation in-house tools, in particular the metadata proxy (interfacing with GVK catalogue), the submission application and a Perl-based SIP Builder tool (csv controlled deposit)
  • Testing and documentation of the digital preservation system after updates
  • Application support for team-internal wiki- and ticket system (Confluence and Jira)
  • Participation in national and international digital preservation working groups

Essential Criteria

  • University degree (Master or comparable), preferably in library- and information science, information management, information science, digital humanities or a related field – or – university degree (Master or comparable) in a different field with several years working experience in positions related to the job offering
  • Experience designing, planning and implementing library and archiving specific workflows
  • Experience writing scripts for the harvesting and structuring of data using technologies such as Bash, Perl, Python or high-level / object-oriented languages such as Java, C, C++ or C#
  • Strong ability to work independently and self-reliant working style

Fluent spoken and written English communication skills are a fundamental requirement; command of the German language is a plus.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of standard digital preservation strategies and standards
  • Knowledge of different AV file formats as well as tools for their analysis
  • Experience with the digital preservation software Rosetta (Ex Libris)
  • Experience with file format analysis tools for digital preservation (e. g. mediainfo, mediaconch, JHOVE, DROID)
